Hoglets craft - Wave-rocking whales
We love THE SNAIL AND THE WHALE here at Hoglets - so what could be better than to create your own wave-rocking whale at home! You will need:
- A Paper Plate
- A Piece of Blue Paper or Cardboard (or white which you can colour blue)
- Some Felt-Tip Pens
- Two Googly Eyes
- A Pair of Scissors
- Some Strong Glue
How to make your Wave Rocking Whale:
- Firstly, take your plate and fold one of the sides to make a straight edge, then fold the plate in half with the folded straight edge facing outwards. 2. Next taking a dark coloured pen draw an inverted whale tale a the pointy end of your plate. Cut out the inverted tale shape whilst keeping it attached to the rest of your whale. 3. Now take your pens and colour-in both sides of your Whales any colour or pattern you desire. Make sure you colour in both sides or your tale. Take the tale and fold it so the tale sticks outwards. 4. Using your glue stick on the Googly eyes, you can also take this opportunity to stick your tale back together if you've ended up with two separate fins rather than one solid tail. Now cut a small hole in the top of your Whales head on the folded edge of the plate. 5. Take your blue Cardboard/Paper and cut off a strip around three inches wide. Fold the strip in half and then roll it into a cylinder. Now push this cylinder into the hole on the Whales head. Taking your scissors cut deep slits into your cylinder and fold them don or curl them around to create your water spout. 6. Lastly, gently rock the Whales head with your finger and let it go. Watch how it rocks and rolls with the invisible tide. If you are feeling extra creative you could make a tiny Snail to stick to the Whale's tail.
